Costa Rica manufactures the new chip Intel will lauch at the end of 2009

Intel factory in Costa Rica will play a key role in launching Intel's new products for next months. Intel Costa Rica will be responsible for manufacturing the new 32-nanometer chip that will reach the world market in late 2009.

Inspite of the global economic crisis and after closing five factories in Malaysia, Philippines and the U.S., Intel is promoting its operations in Costa Rica to continue manufacturing products for servers, computers and mobile devices.

The general manager of Intel Costa Rica, Michael Forrest, told the economic weekly El Financiero that the plant is vital for new products that the firm will launch in the coming months, including the new chip.

Technology revolution

Forrest stressed that this new component, smaller than the head of a pin (such as El Financiero highlights), "promises to be a milestone in the technological revolution" as a strongly impact on the manufacture and use of equipment for the office, study, entertainment, video games and Internet browsing.

“2008 was a productive year for the plant in Costa Rica since launched two new processors for desktop computers and two chipsets for handheld Internet devices", says the specialized weekly.

Intel Costa Rica produces 20 types and 200 models of processors and chipsets that are used in processors, computers and mobile devices. It also provides support in human resources for Latin America and in technologies and services globally.
